Day of Picnic Volunteer Positions
The Chowing with the Hounds picnic is a success because everyone contributes to running the event. We have a wide range of tasks which need volunteers which are explained below. Volunteers will be assigned as needed! Just let us know you wish to volunteer.
Welcome Table
Be the first to match the Chowhound.com board name with the face! Volunteers will greet and check-in arriving guests between 10:30am to noon, working in shifts. Duties include marking off registered Chowhounds as they arrive, recording the name of their dish on the registration spreadsheet, handing out food tags and name badges, asking them to sign waiver forms, and explaining the site layout.
Table Management
Bring out your inner Martha Stewart. Each volunteer will manage an assigned table, which will include arranging the placement of each dish, making sure that all dishes are placed on the correct table, and are properly labeled. Volunteers will also ensure that their table opens to hungry Chowhounds at the correct time.
Set-up Runners
Able and willing folk wanted between 10:30am and 11:30am, working in shifts, to help people carry their items between their cars parked at the curbside loading zone and the Welcome table or to their final location.
Safety
We need your help with making sure we all have a good time in a safe and secure environment. Much of the task for these volunteers is preventing problems through prudent risk management. Volunteers will patrol in shifts keeping an eye-out for non-registered interlopers, as well as potential hazards. Must carry a cell phone, know CPR and basic First Aid, and be prepared to act in case of emergency.
Clean-up
Let’s leave the park as clean as we found it. This team will ensure that attendees pick up after themselves, and then will stay until the end (4pm) and do the final check-up on the grounds after the event.
Lost & Found
Someone always forgets something. This Volunteer will stay until the end of the event (4pm) and try to locate owners for unclaimed items. They will then take home a Lost & Found box, create a list, post it to Chowhound and facilitate getting claimed possessions to their owners post-picnic.
Reporters
All well-read Hounds already know what this is about! Reporters write up a portion of the event in a timely manner (amusing stories, and lists of dishes and who brought them). One Reporter will post a general “Flash Report” within 24 hours. The remaining reporters will add their post the Flash Report on Chowhound.com by 5pm on the Monday after the event.
Photographers
Fancy yourself a food photographer? Have a digital camera and the ability to post to the web or send photos via the internet? We need volunteers to take photos of the food and of the event from start to finish. Photographers will posted their photos on Chowhound.com or send them to Chowingwiththehounds.com by 5pm on the Monday after the event.
Cookbook exchange
Hounds will be bringing their cookbooks and we’ll have a cookbook exchange.
Go Where You’re Most Needed
Not sure what to do? During the registration process, you can choose to allow us to assign you to a volunteer position. Just choose the “Wherever You Need Me” option during registration.
